2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Electrified Powertrain
The 2021 Wrangler 4xe strives to be a leader in the field of adventure SUVs that deliver the exciting performance and capability you're used to while also saving you time at the fuel pump. With this new plug-in hybrid Wrangler, the manufacturer estimates you'll be able to travel up to 400 miles on a single tank of gas.
Not only that, but it will do this this while delivering impressive specs with its turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine:
- 375 horsepower
- 470 lb-ft of torque
This engine pairs with two high-voltage motor generators that replace the alternator and torque converter. These two clutches work together to manage power and torque from the electric motor and the engine to provide optimal performance, even when operating in fully electric mode.
E-Selec Modes for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe will give you the choice in how you operate thanks to the E-Selec system. With this system, you'll be able to choose from three different drive modes.
- Hybrid:Â This default mode alternates between gas and electric power to maximize efficiency and driving range.
- Electric:Â Electric mode operates on zero-emission electric power for a limited range until the battery reaches minimum charge.
- eSave:Â In eSave mode, engine propulsion will be prioritized so you can save the battery charge for later use. This will allow you to operate on gas power on the main roads and switch into EV for zero-emissions off-roading or urban driving.
To help conserve energy, the 2021 Wrangler 4xe uses regenerative braking. This harnesses energy from braking to fuel the battery. To save even more energy, you'll be able to engage Max Regen. This is a more assertive braking that can slow your Wrangler faster while conserving even more electricity for the battery pack.
Handling Capabilities of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler
As you've come to expect from a Jeep like the Wrangler, the Wrangler 4xe will also bring plenty of off-roading prowess. It will be equipped with a full-time 4-wheel drive (4x4) system with a Selec-Trac® 2-speed transfer case. This includes a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio that can help you crawl through tricky conditions.
It's an intuitive, set-it-and-forget-it system that actively adapts to your roadway conditions to provide torque to the wheels that need it most and improve traction control across the board in a variety of conditions. Â
